Season 14 damage planning is less about chasing the biggest line on an item and more about finding the part of the formula that is still weak. That is why a sensible look at D4 items starts with the build's active conditions, then moves to its separate multipliers. If your character rarely crits, for example, a huge Critical Strike Damage roll is mostly dead weight. The same goes for bonuses that need Vulnerable, poison, or Werebear form when those states are not up often enough. Get those switches working first. It sounds basic, but plenty of players skip it and wonder why the dummy numbers never show up in real fights.

Make separate multipliers do the heavy lifting

Multiplicative effects are where a build really starts to pull away. Paragon legendary nodes, item powers, unique effects, and certain conditional bonuses can sit in separate parts of the calculation. Splitting investment between them usually beats piling everything into one source. A single 120% multiplier becomes 2.2 times damage. Two distinct 60% multipliers become 1.6 times 1.6, or 2.56 times damage. It is not flashy on an item screen, yet it is a big difference once the build is running.

SetupTotal multiplier
One 120% source2.20
Two separate 60% sources2.56
Turn conditions into reliable damage

Critical Strike Chance deserves attention before Critical Strike Damage, especially for endgame Druids. A totem is often the cleanest place to push that chance through Masterworking, while rings can cover what is left. Amulets are usually better reserved for rare damage multipliers rather than crit chance. Once crits and Vulnerable are consistent, compare upgrades by relative gain, not by the number printed in isolation. Add 100 to the old value and the new value, then divide new by old. That simple check stops a lot of bad swaps.

Prioritise reliable Critical Strike and Vulnerable uptime.
Use separate multiplicative effects where possible.
Compare every upgrade against what you already have.

Check the quieter parts of the formula

Weapon damage, skill ranks, and Willpower still matter, but their value depends on your current totals. Going from a 330% skill value to 351% is 451 divided by 430, so it is roughly a 4.8% gain, not 21%. Additive pools work the same way and lose value as they grow. Attack speed needs a practical test too. It can raise hits, Lucky Hit triggers, and cooldown recovery, but only if it crosses a frame threshold. When comparing D4 items buy options, test the setup in combat and keep the choice that improves real output rather than just the tooltip.
